Palestine records 253 new coronavirus cases, six deaths

RAMALLAH, Palestine today recorded 253 new Covid-19 cases and six deaths, according to Health Minister Mai Al-Kaileh.

She announced that 253 Palestinians tested positive for the highly contagious virus and six others died of it in the occupied territories.

Among the new 253 cases, 143 cases were recorded in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and 110 others in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Al-Kaileh identified the deaths as two deaths from the West Bank and four others from the besieged Gaza Strip.

She added that 905 Covid-19 patients recovered; 354 recovery cases in the West Bank and 551 others in the Gaza Strip.

She pointed that 60 Covid-19 patients are getting treatment in intensive care units, including 14 who are connected to ventilators, while 120 others are currently hospitalized across the West Bank.

Recoveries account for 97 percent of total cases since the pandemic outbreak in March, active cases for 1.9 percent and the death toll accounts for 1.1 percent.

Regarding the Covid-19 vaccination rollout, al-Kaileh said that 275,305 people have received the vaccine so far; 236,496 vaccinated people in the West Bank and 38,809 others in Gaza. Meanwhile, 196,112 people received the second dose of the vaccine.
