Bombardier and Russia’s Rostekhnologii Execute Series of Agreements; at Least 100 Bombardier Q400 NextGen Aircraft Being Considered

– Parties sign a letter of intent for the sale of 50 Q400 NextGen aircraft for Russian operators
– Also enter into a market development agreement for the potential placement of at least 50 additional Q400 NextGen aircraft in the region
– Execute a memorandum of understanding that could add a Q400 NextGen aircraft final assembly line in Russia

MOSCOW, RUSSIA–(Marketwired – August 28, 2013) – Bombardier and Rostekhnologii (“Rostec”), a state corporation controlled by the Russian Federation, today announced that they signed a series of preliminary agreements that include a letter of intent (LOI) for the sale of 50 Q400 NextGen aircraft; and a Market Development Agreement reached with Rostec and its aircraft leasing subsidiary, Avia Capital Services, that will provide an opportunity to place at least 50 additional Q400 NextGen aircraft in the region. The parties also concluded a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to validate the opportunity to set up a Q400 NextGen final assembly line in Russia.

The LOI, Market Development Agreement and MOU were signed at the 2013 International Aviation and Space Salon, known as the MAKS 2013 Air Show, held at Moscow’s Zhukovsky Airport. Should definitive agreements be reached, based on the list price of the Q400 NextGen airliner, a firm-order contract for 100 Q400 NextGen aircraft would be valued at approximately $3.39 billion US.

The establishment of a Q400 NextGen aircraft final assembly line in the Russian Federation, as outlined in the MOU, is a key commercial requirement of both the LOI and the Market Development Agreement. Under the MOU, Bombardier and Rostec will validate the opportunity to set up a Q400 NextGen final assembly line in Russia that would be managed by a joint venture between the two parties.

Should definitive agreements be reached, a Q400 NextGen aircraft final assembly line in Russia would produce aircraft for Russian customers and would be incremental to Bombardier’s current Q400 NextGen aircraft production operations in Toronto, Canada. Bombardier and Rostec are working towards definitive agreements to be concluded in 2014, subject to obtaining the required internal, governmental and third-party approvals, as well as other usual conditions.

“The implementation of this project with our potential partner, Bombardier, will contribute to the fleet renewal of our airlines, as well as to improve flight safety and reduce fares on regional routes. We are entering an important stage of validation towards formalizing the creation of this joint venture that will lay the foundation for the future of Russian turboprop aviation,” noted Alexey Fedorov, Managing Director, Aviation Projects, Rostec.

“We recognize this as a landmark opportunity for the Q400 NextGen aircraft program. This aircraft is ideally suited for airlines operating within the geographically diverse Russian Federation and the neighbouring regions where, together with Rostec, we are forecasting a 144 per cent growth in demand for 60- to 99-seat turboprops over the next five years,” said Mike Arcamone, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. “Developing local roots in strategic markets is at the core of Bombardier’s strategic framework, and we have identified Russia as being key to our growth and sustainability. The agreements signed today are the next step towards ensuring our long-term competitive position in the Russian Federation and will help secure Rostec’s ongoing establishment of an aviation centre of excellence,” he added.

There are currently more than 120 Bombardier commercial aircraft in-service in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), and over the next 20 years, Bombardier forecasts a market demand of approximately 400 aircraft in the 20- to 99-seat market in the region.

About Q400 NextGen aircraft

The Q400 NextGen turboprop airliner is the most recent development in the evolution of the Q400 aircraft, and the advanced successor to Bombardier’s Dash 8/Q-Series family of aircraft. Optimized for short-haul operations, the “comfortably greener,” 70- to 80-seat Q400 NextGen aircraft is a large, fast, quiet and fuel-efficient turboprop. It provides an ideal balance of passenger comfort and operating economics with a reduced environmental footprint.

Bombardier has booked firm orders for 475 Q400 and Q400 NextGen aircraft. Worldwide, Q400 and Q400 NextGen aircraft have transported more than 243 million passengers and have logged over 4.2 million flight hours and more than 4.5 million take-offs and landings in service with close to 50 operators in over 30 countries on five continents. In June 2012, the aircraft received Aircraft Type Approval from the Interstate Aviation Committee to operate in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Bombardier Discloses Odyssey as European Customer for 10 CSeries Aircraft

PARIS, FRANCE–(Marketwired – June 17, 2013) – Bombardier Aerospace disclosed today that a previously announced firm order for 10 CS100 aircraft was placed by Odyssey Airlines, a new airline that intends to operate from London City Airport. The firm order was announced on June 24, 2011.

Based on the list price for the CS100 aircraft at the time of the order, the firm order is valued at $628 million US.

“We are launching Odyssey Airlines with the CS100 aircraft because its transcontinental range will allow us to connect key city airports with stringent performance and environmental requirements both in Europe and further afield,” said Adam D. Scott, Chief Executive Officer, Odyssey Airlines. “We have a unique strategy that will offer a premier service with a focus on new destinations that cannot currently be served from London City Airport. For us, the game-changing CSeries aircraft offers the best-in-class airfield performance, the lowest sound profile of any commercial aircraft in production in its segment, and will provide the ability to open new markets — all of which are integral to our business model.”

“Over the last two years, Bombardier has seen Odyssey evolve into a forward-thinking and up-and-coming airline. We are thrilled to publicly welcome Odyssey Airlines to the family of CS100 aircraft operators,” said Mike Arcamone, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. “The CSeries aircraft’s premium cabin, reduced environmental footprint and fantastic ability to serve a wide range of missions are the perfect pairing to Odyssey’s business plan,” he added.

About CSeries Aircraft

Designed for the growing 100- to 149-seat market, the 100 per cent new CSeries aircraft family combines advanced materials, leading-edge technology and proven methods to meet commercial airline requirements. Powered by Pratt & Whitney PurePower PW1500G engines, the CSeries aircraft family will offer a 15(i) per cent cash operating cost advantage and a 20(i) per cent fuel burn advantage. With the extra capacity seating option, the CS300 aircraft’s productivity further improves, offering airlines an average of four(i) per cent additional cash operating cost advantage per seat. The CSeries aircraft’s clean-sheet design is ensuring that the aircraft will achieve greatly reduced noise and emissions, as well as superior operational flexibility, exceptional airfield performance and a range of 2,950 nm (5,463 km)(i). The CSeries aircraft will be up to 12,000 lbs. (5,443 kg)(i) lighter than other aircraft in the same seat category and will provide passengers with a best-in-class, widebody cabin environment in a single-aisle aircraft.

As of March 31, 2013, Bombardier had booked orders and commitments for 388 CSeries aircraft, which included firm orders for 145 CSeries airliners.

Delta Air Lines Orders Up to 70 Bombardier CRJ900 NextGen Jetliners

– Order includes 40 firm CRJ900 NextGen aircraft and options for 30 more for operation by Delta Connection carriers

– Transaction has potential value of $3.29 Billion US

TORONTO, ONTARIO–(Marketwire – December 7, 2012) – Bombardier Aerospace announced today that Delta Air Lines, Inc. of Atlanta, Georgia has placed a firm order for 40 CRJ900 NextGen regional jets and has taken options on an additional 30 CRJ900 NextGen aircraft.

Based on the list price of the CRJ900 NextGen aircraft, the firm order is valued at approximately $1.85 billion US, and could reach approximately $3.29 billion US if the 30 options are converted to firm orders.

The new CRJ900 NextGen regional jets will be configured with 76 seats in a two-class cabin and will be operated by Delta Connection carriers to be determined by Delta Air Lines.

“We selected Bombardier’s CRJ900 NextGen aircraft specifically because it is proven to be the most cost-efficient jet aircraft in its class for our operations and this regional jet satisfies perfectly the agreement that we have made with our pilots to add 70 more 76-seat jetliners to our fleet,” said Ed Bastian, President, Delta Air Lines. “We have selected the CRJ aircraft for our restructuring plan based on the strength and reliability of their performance with our Delta Connection carriers over the years.”

Delta Connection carriers currently fly 466 CRJ Series aircraft – 286 CRJ200, 79 CRJ700 and 101 CRJ900 jetliners – making it the world’s largest CRJ aircraft fleet. The CRJ900 airliners in the Delta Connection fleet include 57 flown by Pinnacle Airlines, 16 by ExpressJet Airlines and 28 by SkyWest Airlines.

“Building on a relationship that is 20 years strong, we are delighted that Delta – one of the world’s largest, most prestigious global airlines – continues to select Bombardier CRJ regional jets to replenish its fleet,” said Mike Arcamone, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. “CRJ aircraft have been in service with Delta Connection carriers since 1993 when Comair became the first North American airline to operate the CRJ100 regional jet. Since then, Delta has been a steady Bombardier CRJ customer and has been a major contributor to the worldwide success of the CRJ aircraft program. We look forward to a continuing strong relationship with Delta and we have every confidence in our ability to provide innovative solutions to meet the airline’s business requirements.”

Including the order from Delta Air Lines announced today, Bombardier has recorded firm orders for 1,775 CRJ Series aircraft, including 314 CRJ900 and CRJ900 NextGen aircraft. Worldwide, CRJ Series aircraft are in service with more than 60 airlines and more than 30 customers operate corporate variants of the aircraft. The aircraft are operating in over 50 countries on six continents, and on average, a CRJ aircraft takes off every ten seconds somewhere in the world. CRJ Series aircraft have transported more than 1.2 billion passengers and have logged more than 34 million flight hours and over 28 million takeoffs and landings.

CRJ900 NextGen aircraft

Like other members of the CRJ Series family of aircraft, the light weight and advanced aerodynamics of the CRJ900 NextGen regional jet combine to deliver improved efficiency and reduced operating costs compared to other aircraft in its class. The combination of a larger winglet and other optimizations since the launch of the CRJ900 aircraft, give the CRJ900 NextGen regional jet excellent airfield and en-route fuel consumption. All CRJ NextGen aircraft feature new interiors with larger overhead luggage bins, larger windows, improved lighting and redesigned ceiling panels and sidewalls.
