Bassam Saadi, whose release was conditioned for the recent Gaza ceasefire, was remanded in custody by an Israeli court

RAMALLAH, The Israeli military court at Ofer detention camp near Ramallah today remanded in custody for the fourth time Jenin resident Bassam Saadi, detained by Israel on August 1 during a raid at his home in Jenin refugee camp and whose release was conditioned for the recent Gaza ceasefire.

The military court remanded Saadi, 62, until Sunday after the Israeli military prosecution requested that he remain in custody until the end of the legal proceedings in his case.

Saadi is accused of being a leading member of the Islamic Jihad, which he denies. He had been detained several times before and spent over 10 years in jail.

Egypt, which brokered the latest ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian factions in Gaza, has promised the Palestinian factions to intervene for the release of Saadi, along with hunger-striking administrative detainee Khalil Awawda, as demanded by the factions for accepting the ceasefire after three days of airstrikes on Gaza earlier this month.
