Egypt condemns Israeli violations against al-Aqsa mosque

Egypt condemned the Israeli violations against al-Aqsa mosque by extremist settlers today under the protection of Israeli police, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Ahmed Hafez.

He stressed in a press statement Egypt’s complete rejection of such violations, recalling that Egypt has always warned against encroaching upon al-Aqsa mosque, which holds a great status for all Muslims around the world, stating that al-Aqsa mosque is a place of worship for Muslims that enjoys a sacred status.

He said that it is the responsibility of the Israeli authorities to provide protection to worshipers in order to maintain security and stability, stressing the need to refrain from anything that would contribute to creating any tension or actions that lead to escalation.

He affirmed the need to press ahead to revive the negotiation process in accordance with international terms of reference, international law, and known UN resolutions based on the two-state solution.
