Eleven people injured, some critical, in an Israeli army raid of Qabatya town

JENIN, Eleven Palestinians were injured this morning, some said to be critical, from Israeli army gunfire during a raid of the northern West Bank town of Qabatya, according to medical and Palestinian security sources.

A large Israeli army force raided Qabatya in the early morning hours and surrounded the house of Alaa Omar Zakarneh, a former prisoner, for several hours before arresting him, said the security sources.

Palestinians clashed with the soldiers during the raid, who fired live bullets, tear gas canisters and rubber-coated metal bullets at the Palestinians injuring 11.

Medical sources said seven Palestinians were hit by live bullets, one of them shot in the back and is reported to be critical and another in the stomach, while one person was hit in the head by a rubber bullet.

The army left the town after the arrest, said the security sources.
