Former cabinet minister placed under administrative detention

JENIN, The Israeli authorities Thursday placed Wasfi Qabaha, 54, from Jenin and a former cabinet minister, under administrative detention for five months, according to members of his family.

The Israeli army detained Qabaha two weeks ago during an after midnight raid at his home.

Qabaha, who served as minister of prisoners affairs in the Hamas-led government in 2006, has spent a total of over 10 years in Israeli prisons, most of them in administrative detention without charge or trial.

The family said Qabaha suffers from high blood pressure, rheumatism and he is diabetic, which he developed while in detention and became chronic due to medical negligence in prison.
