Health Minister hands WHO representative letter demanding lift of Israeli siege on Nablus

RAMALLAH, Minister of Health Mai Alkaila handed today an urgent letter to the WHO Representative in Palestine Dr. Rik Peppercorn asking for immediate intervention to lift the Israeli siege on the occupied West Bank provinces of Nablus and Jenin, and to provide protection for medical staff and patients.

During a meeting in Ramallah, Alkaila demanded that the United Nations bodies take a serious position to lift the siege and facilitate the movement of patients and medical staff between cities and provide full protection for medical staff, in light of the deliberate attacks by the Israeli occupation forces and settlers.

She stressed the need for international human rights institutions to put an end to the racist practices and deliberate use of excessive force and internationally prohibited bullets by the Israeli occupation against defenceless Palestinian civilians.

Alkaila also handed the International Committee of the Red Cross a letter demanding urgent action against Israel’s practices against our people and to provide protection for patients and medical staff.
