DUBAI: More than one hundred and fifty national, regional and global border protection and management experts were brought together today by the Smart Border Technology Forum was organized under the patronage of H.H Lt.General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior by the Department of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai on Monday.
The topics discussed by the 2-day forum include the launch of new e-passport technology and automatic e-gates in the UAE, the latest technologies to effectively protect and manage land, air and sea borders, strategies to facilitate transit services at land, sea and air borders, trafficking operations and cross-border crime, combating terrorism and enhancing national security as well as managing, monitoring and tracking movement of people, the lack of immigration checks for boat crews, evaluating integrated biometric systems and identifying high-risk migration areas.
Director General of Dubai’s Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs Major General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, in opening remarks, said the first such event in the region reflects directives by leadership of the UAE to employ the latest technology and keep up with the latest advanced to enhance the UAE’s stature as a leader in border protection.
Deputy Director of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs Brigadier Obaid Mehayar bin Suroor said as UAE has become among the world’s most favorite destination for tourists and businesses, continued efforts are needed to enhance security and stability and to provide world’s best services to nationals, residents and visitors alike.
The forum provides a platform for highlighting the achievements and initiatives of countries in border control, security and management. New systems such as the C4ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance), advanced border imaging screening devices, and border surveillance solutions will be introduced at the event.
