Israel issues 24 administration detention orders against Palestinian detainees

RAMALLAH, Since the beginning of April, Israeli authorities have issued 24 administration detention orders, without charge or trial, against Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons, said the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) in a statement on Sunday.

Mahmoud al-Halabi, PPS attorney, said that the issued administration detention periods ranging from three to six renewable months.

Administrative detention allows for internment without charge or trial for six-month intervals that can be renewed indefinitely. The policy has been strongly criticized by the international community as well as both Israeli and Palestinian rights activists.

According to a statistic by the Palestinian Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association, the total number of Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli prisons is 6,500, with 536 of them being administrative detainees.
