Israeli forces close Ibrahimi Mosque for Jewish holidays, attack worshipers and Waqf employees

HEBRON, Israeli forces attacked today Palestinian worshippers and Islamic Waqf employees in al-Haram al-Ibrahimi (Ibrahimi Mosque) in the southern West Bank city of Hebron and forced them to leave before closing it.

Sheikh Hefzy Abu Sneina, director of the mosque, told WAFA Israeli forces stormed and desecrated the mosque and its courtyards with their boots, verbally and physically assaulted Waqf employees, forced worshippers out, and prevented their access to the mosque under the pretext of securing the entry of settlers to mark the Yom Kippur Jewish holiday.

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, Hussam Abu Al-Rub, condemned the Israeli measures at al-Ibrahimi mosque, including the continuous closures, preventing the call to prayer, and expulsions of Waqf employees, slamming such measures as a flagrant attack and serious violation and an attempt to take full control over the mosque.

The Ibrahimi Mosque, located in the Israeli-controlled section of Hebron known as H2, has been divided between Muslims and Jews since the massacre on February 25, 1994 of Muslim worshippers as they were performing the dawn prayers on a Ramadan day by a Jewish settler.
