Israeli police assault activists demonstrating in Jerusalem against aggression on Gaza

JERUSALEM, Israeli occupation forces assaulted and dispersed a vigil held today by Palestinian activists in the vicinity of the Damascus Gate plaza in occupied Jerusalem. The vigil was organized in protest of the Israeli aggression on Gaza.

WAFA correspondent said Israeli police officers physically assaulted the protesters, beat them up and arrested at least one of them.

Meantime, scores of Israeli settlers took part in a provocative march inside the Old City of Jerusalem and shouted racist slogans under heavy police protection.

The march comes only a day before tensions are expected to rise again tomorrow as Jewish fanatic groups are planning a mass break-in into Al-Aqsa Mosque, a Muslim holy place located in Jerusalem’s Old City.

The so-called Temple Mount groups, who seek to destroy Al-Aqsa Mosque and replace it with a Jewish temple, called on their followers to be present at the Muslim holy place on Sunday to mark the Tisha B’av (the ninth of Av) holiday, a day of fasting marking the alleged destruction of the two Jewish temples more than two thousand years ago.
