Israeli police attack Palestinians at Jerusalem’s Damascus Gate, assault child, girl, detain journalists

JERUSALEM, Israeli police today fired tear gas at Palestinians hanging around Damascus Gate, one of the main gates to Jerusalem’s Old City, assaulted a 10-year-old child and a girl, and arrested journalists, according to witnesses.

They said the police fired a heavy barrage of tear gas at people near the gate, forcing them to disperse but not before assaulting the child and a young girl.

The police also detained Palestinian journalists who were covering the assault, including a reporter and a photojournalist, said the witnesses.

Israeli police attacks at Palestinians at Damascus Gate has been an almost daily occurrence in recent weeks. Police also use a tanker to spray skunk water at the people near the gate area leaving behind a very bad odor.
