JERUSALEM, Israeli police today handed a Palestinian Jerusalemite resident in Shaikh Jarrah neighborhood in East Jerusalem, a notice ordering him to get rid of his dog under the pretext that there is no fence surrounding the dog’s place.
The dog owner, Mahmoud al-Sa’u, told WAFA the Israeli authorities threatened to fine him 40 thousand Shekels (approximately $12,000) and to seize the dog if he did not respond to the notice within a maximum of five days.
Al-Sa’u stressed that such notice comes as part of Israel’s displacing policy of Jerusalemites and harassing them with notifications and fines under false allegations, the latest of which is the possession of a dog!
He noted that the Israeli police are targeting him because he has been receiving activists coming to show solidarity with the neighborhood’s residents who are threatened with forcible expulsion from their homes for the benefit of settlers. He noted that his two sons were recently detained by the Israeli police, one of whom was released on bail of 5000 Shekels.
