Israeli settlers, backed by army forces, beat up Palestinian boy in central Hebron city

HEBRON, Israeli settlers this evening attacked and injured a 13-year-old Palestinian boy in central Hebron city, in the southern occupied West Bank, according to WAFA correspondent.

WAFA correspondent said that armed settlers, backed by Israeli forces, beat up a 13-year-old boy while he was present near his house in Hebron’s Old City, causing him bruises and cuts. The boy was treated at the scene.

in the meantime, settlers from the illegal Israeli settlement of Beit Hadassah smashed the windows of a house belonging to the Sdr family in central Hebron city, spreading panic among children. No injuries were reported.

According to the Israeli information center for human rights in the occupied territories, B’Tselem, the settlement of Beit Hadassah is one of eight settlement sites installed by Israel in central Hebron, in the heart of the city’s Palestinian population. Israel enforces a regime of segregation between settlers and Palestinians in the area, which includes severe restrictions on Palestinian movement, brutal violence against them, and facilitation of daily settler attacks.

“Palestinian children living in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, find themselves in a hyper-militarized environment where they are vulnerable to violence at the hands of Israeli settlers and soldiers,” said Defense for Children International, an independent, local Palestinian child rights organization.

Impunity is rampant for Israeli settlers who attack Palestinians. According to the Israeli human rights group Yesh Din, 91 percent of investigations into ideological crimes against Palestinians are closed with no indictments filed.
