Jordan condemns Israel’s assault of worshipers at Al-Aqsa

AMMAN, The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs today denounced the Israeli occupation forces’ raid of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and the ensuing assault of Muslim worshipers attending prayers at the holy site earlier today.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Daifallah al-Fayez said in a statement that what happened at Al-Aqsa Mosque today was an irresponsible and rejected act that undermines the sanctity of the holy site and the safety of worshipers.

Al-Fayez urged the occupation authorities to respect the historical and legal status quo in Al-Aqsa, the safety and freedom of worshipers and the authority of the Jordan-run Jerusalem Waqf (Endowments) which is the only authority in charge of managing the affairs of the holy site.

He also called on the occupation authorities to abide by their obligations under international law as the occupying power in East Jerusalem, and to put an end to its attacks and violations of the holy sites.
