Jordan condemns Israel’s continued violations against al-Aqsa mosque

Jordan today denounced Israel’s continued violations against al-Aqsa Mosque/ Al-Haram al-Sharif, the latest of which was today’s attack on worshipers and the storming of the mosque’s compound by large numbers of extremist settlers under Israeli police protection, according to Jordan’s Petra News Agency.

Daifallah al-Fayez, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates stressed in a statement that the Israeli actions against the mosque are rejected and condemned, and represent a violation of the historical and legal status quo, international law, and Israel’s obligations as an occupying power in East Jerusalem.

He said that the ministry sent today an official letter of protest calling on Israel to stop its violations and provocations, respect the historical and legal status quo, respect the sanctity of the mosque and the freedom of worshipers, and respect the authority of the Jordan-run Jerusalem Endowment Department and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs.

He stressed that Al-Aqsa Mosque, with its entire area of 144 dunums, is a pure place of worship for Muslims whose affairs are exclusively supervised by the Waqf Department and the Jordanian Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs.
