Mohammed Haji Khouri, Director General of the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, gave a presentation on the major humanitarian and development projects run by the agency in over 60 countries. These include tens of thousands of iftar meals given out to the needy during the fasting season, and the building of mosques, schools, bridges and hospitals for the most underprivileged people hit by disasters and conflicts.
Khouri noted that in Yemen, the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation is currently running food relief operations country-wide, following the UAE’s pledge last year to provide AED 500 million in aid to help Yemen counter acute food shortages. This pledge was made upon orders by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to the Foundation.
Mohammed Haji Khouri continued his brief by highlighting that under its educational programme, the Foundation sponsors 180,000 students at over 7000 schools in the UAE, and the Foundation’s Ramadan programme has contracted with some 600 Emirati families to secure Iftar meals during Ramadan this year.
