King Abdallah condemns killing of Shireen Abu Akleh, allocates master’s scholarship in her honor

AMMAN, Sunday, May 15, 2022 (WAFA) – Jordan’s King Abdallah II extended condolences to the family of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, in a phone call with her brother, Anton Abu Akleh, condemning the crime committed against her while covering the Israeli raid of Jenin camp, according to the Jordanian Petra news agency.

King Abdullah extended condolences to Abu Akleh’s family and fellow journalists, denouncing the crime as a violation of international humanitarian law and freedom of the press, said Petra.

He paid tribute to Abu Akleh’s professionalism and her distinguished, courageous coverage of developments in the occupied Palestinian Territories and the plight of the Palestinian people, added the Jordanian news agency.

In the meantime, on the instructions of King Abdallah, the Jordan Media Institute announced that it will allocate an annual scholarship to obtain a master’s degree in journalism and media; For Palestinian female journalists in honor of Abu Akleh, and at the expense of the King.
