Leadership’s vision behind UAE success story, says Grand Imam of Al Azhar

Abu Dhabi, 28 April 2013 (WAM) – The United Arab Emirates has come a long way in education and technology, thanks to the clear vision and goals of its leadership, said the Grand Imam of Egypt’s Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Tayyeb.

“The UAE has witnessed a tremendous progress because its leadership has a clear a vision and defined goals. The UAE has what it takes to achieve sustainable development, security and prosperity,” Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Tayyeb said today during a press conference at the Emirates Palace.

Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Tayyeb thanked the government and people of the UAE for honouring him as the Cultural Personality of the Year in the seventh edition of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award.

Earlier today, Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Tayyeb was received by His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

“I am pleased to be here in the UAE and I am honoured to meet His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a savvy leader with vast knowledge of the regional and international issues,” he said.

Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Tayyeb said in the press conference that Al Azhar University has around 450,000 students from over 106 countries receiving education about the moderate approach of Islam.

Asked if his visit to the UAE carried any political significance, he said: “As the Grand Imam of Al Azhar, I have nothing to do with politics because I care for all Arab and Islamic countries and I carry the message of global peace and security.” WAM/MAB
