Lubna Al Qasimi considers cooperating with UK in International development

WAM Abu Dhabi, 25th April 2013 (WAM) — Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development, received Mr. Alan Duncan, UK Minister of State for International Development, for discussing means of supporting the joint efforts and aligning UAE and UK points of view in the field of international development, in respect to various humanitarian issues and crises, including food security and nutrition, drought, refugees and people affected from conflicts.

Sheikha Lubna said that UAE is working constantly on improving its contributions aiming to relief the suffering of the affected people worldwide, and reaching out to the people in need for aid and assistance, whereas this is considered a philosophy our wise leadership, represented in UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is adopting. She asserted that these positive indicators the UAE is attaining in the international level, in addition to its various development and humanitarian initiatives, are reflecting the spirit of this philosophy, its positive consequences and humanitarian commitment.

During the meeting, they discussed the importance of the second initiative, launched by His Highness General Sheikh Mohamad bin Zayed Al Nahyan Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, during the Global Vaccine Summit, to provide more support to the global efforts aiming to eradicate polio worldwide by 2018, as an exemplar for fighting many other diseases that are threatening millions of children’s health and wellness worldwide.

During the meeting, Al Qasimi and the British minister reviewed the possible means of cooperation and aligning the common points of view in respect to the global development and humanitarian issues, including the possibility of acting effectively in response to the emerging humanitarian crises, evaluating and identifying the needs and the joint intervention.

Both parties discussed issue of providing food supplies to the children in the poor countries, in addition to broaching the fields of cooperation between UAE and Britain in the sector of children education.

In return, Mr. Duncan commended, during the meeting, the great advances that UAE has accomplished for enhancing its international contributions, especially UAE prominent and surpassing efforts in providing all possible support to the Syrian refugees, and UAE’s antecedence for acting effectively for mitigating the suffering of the affected people in the humanitarian crises worldwide, in addition to UAE’s success in achieving the development and prosperity to its citizens, in addition to enhancing women role and potentials in all sectors.
