Newspaper Review: Dailies highlight occupation forces’ killing of a Palestinian woman at checkpoint

The three Palestinian Arabic-language dailies focused today on the fatal shooting by the Israeli occupation forces of a Palestinian woman yesterday at Qalandia checkpoint, on Ramallah-Jerusalem road.

They said Israeli occupation soldiers opened gunfire at Ibtesam Khaled Kaabneh, 27, and killed her. The woman was left bleeding helplessly on the ground for a few minutes before she was pronounced dead.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said a new Israeli government is expected to swear-in today ending the era of Benjamin Netanyahu, the longest-serving Israeli prime minister.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam said Israeli settler extremists yesterday attacked two Palestinian children by spraying them with pepper gas near Jaffa Gate in occupied Jerusalem.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam dozens of injuries were reported among Palestinian protesters yesterday as Israeli occupation forces attacked them while demonstrating in the occupied West Bank village of Kafr Qaddum against colonial Israeli settlements.

The three dailies reported that more than 500 American journalists have signed an open letter demanding that US media coverage of the situation in Palestine should highlight the facts that the Israeli occupation is imposing on the ground.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said a high-profile ministerial delegation headed by deputy Palestinian Prime Minister Ziad Abu Amr is expected to travel to Cairo today to discuss the Gaza reconstruction efforts.

Al-Ayyam said Israeli occupation forces yesterday detained three Palestinian children in Aida refugee camp, to the north of Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank.
