Palestinian Arabic-language dailies focused today on the injury of several Palestinian protesters, including a child, by Israeli occupation forces during anti-settlement protests and clashes in the occupied West Bank yesterday.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said a nine-year-old child was injured yesterday with a rubber-coated round shot at him by the Israeli occupation army during a protest in the village of Kafr Qaddum, north of the West Bank, against colonial Israeli settlements.
Meantime, al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted a statement by the PLO Negotiations Affairs Department marking the 54th anniversary of the Naksa, or setback, when Israel occupied the West Bank, Gaza, the Golan Heights and Sinai Peninsula. The statement said that ending the Israeli occupation was an urgently needed international imperative.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam also highlighted the Israeli police assault and arrest of prominent Al Jazeera TV correspondent Givara Budeiri, who was documenting Israeli violations of human rights in the occupied Jerusalem neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah. Budeiri was released a few hours later.
Al-Ayyam said Israeli police officers brutally assaulted Budeiri while covering the ongoing shutdown of Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood and arrested her for a few hours.
Al-Ayyam said the Palestinian Presidency stressed that Israeli provocations and unilateral measures in occupied Jerusalem could fuel massive tensions, and urged the US administration to put an end to these provocations.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Quds said the PLO Executive Committee is scheduled to meet in Ramallah on Monday to discuss a number of files, including the consequences of the recent Israeli aggression on Gaza and the intra-Palestinian national dialogue.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam quoted Yahya Senwar, the leader of Hamas Movement in Gaza, as saying that any future battle with the Israeli occupation will reshape the map of the Middle East.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said hundreds of pro-Palestine protesters marched on Friday in front of the port of Oakland in California to block the delivery of an Israeli ship cargo, in a show of the solidarity with the Palestinian people in the aftermath of the Israeli aggression on Gaza.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Palestinians in 1948-occupied Palestine held protests in the cities of Acre and Tamra demanding the release of hundreds of activists detained by the Israeli occupation authorities during the last few weeks.
