Newspapers Review: Israeli army killing of a Palestinian in Bethlehem highlight of the dailies

RAMALLAH, The Israeli army killing of a Palestinian in Deheishe refugee camp in Bethlehem was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.

“A martyr and several injuries in Deheishe refugee camp,” said the headline in al-Quds daily.

“A martyr by occupation army gunfire in Deheishe camp and clashed in confronting a raid of Jenin refugee camp,” said al-Ayyam Arabic daily in its main story headline.

The third daily, al-Hayat al-Jadida, also said “one martyr and six wounded in Deheishe camp and the occupation demolish a mosque in Dura (Hebron area).”

The three papers printed a statement of condemnation by the prime minister of the Israeli army killing of Omar Yousef Manna, 23, during a raid of Deheishe camp early yesterday, and al-Hayat al-Jadida had a story about Manna, the baker, and the impact of his killing on his family and friends.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that the Israeli army detained 19 Palestinians yesterday, issued a demolition order against a building with nine apartments in Silwan neighborhood in occupied East Jerusalem as well as for three stores in the village of Beit Rima, near Ramallah, and raided an elementary school in Ein Yabroud, also near Ramallah.

It also said that Fatah Revolutionary Council continues its 10th session at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.

Al-Ayyam said six hours of hearings at the Magistrate Court in Jerusalem exposed collusion between different Israeli bodies against Palestinian landowners in Silwan.

It also warned that the powers granted to the fascist Israeli lawmaker Itamar Ben Gvir will have serious repercussions on the life of Palestinians in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and inside Israel, but more dangerous in East Jerusalem if it touches Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Al-Quds said Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh expressed pride in the “historical relationship” with the United Arab Emirates.

The political developments in Israel, particularly with efforts to form a new right-wing government, as well as the latest in the developments in the war on Ukraine and the results of the World Cup 2022 matches in Qatar were also highlighted on the front page of the three dailies.
