Forty days after the killing of prominent Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh by Israeli forces in Jenin, a memorial service was held today in Ramallah to commemorate her memory.
The memorial service was held today in Ramallah under the patronage of President Mahmoud Abbas and in the presence of Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Riyad Al-Maliki, and several other Palestinian officials.
Shtayyeh said that the absence of accountability will encourage Israel to kill more, stressing that Israel must be held accountable for its crimes.
He said that the Palestinian Authority has rejected the Israeli request to conduct a joint investigation into the killing of al-Jazeera journalist Abu Akleh, stressing that those who falsify the history of our people and steal their land are capable of adopting a fake narrative, stressing that Israel could not be trusted.
“We refused to conduct a joint investigation or to hand over the bullet to Israel and we demand Israel to turn over the rifle that assassinated Abu Akleh.”
For his part, Malki said that the assassination of Abu Akleh will be added to the war crimes committed by the Israeli occupation.
He stressed that despite international condemnation for this heinous crime, Israel, the occupying power, has not conducted a transparent investigation in absolute disregard to all international conventions.
