Palestine records 156 new COVID-19 cases, six deaths

RAMALLAH, Palestine today recorded 156 new Covid-19 cases and six deaths, according to Health Minister Mai al-Kaileh.

She announced that 156 Palestinians tested positive for the highly contagious virus and six others died of it in the occupied territories.

Among the new 156 cases, 24 cases were recorded in the West Bank and 132 others in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Al-Kaileh said five deaths from COVID-19 were reported in the Gaza Strip, and another was reported in the West Bank city of Nablus.

She added that 325 COVID-19 patients recovered; 59 recovery cases in the West Bank and 266 others in the Gaza Strip.

She pointed that 13 COVID-19 patients are getting treatment in intensive care units, including two who are connected to ventilators, while 18 others are currently hospitalized across the West Bank.

Recoveries account for 97.7 percent of total cases since the pandemic outbreak in March 2020, while the active cases declined to 1.2 percent. The death toll accounts for 1.1 percent.

Regarding the Covid-19 vaccination rollout, al-Kaileh said that 412,566 people have received the vaccine so far in the West Bank and Gaza, including 253,604 people who received the second dose of the vaccine.
