RAMALLAH, Palestinian administrative detainee in Israel, Kayed Fasfous has been on hunger strike for 64 straight days demanding his freedom. He is one of six Palestinian detainees who are currently on hunger strike in protest against their long incarceration without charge or trial, according to the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS).
It said that the six administrative detainees are suffering from difficult health condition that is getting worse by the day as they continue in their hunger strike demanding an end to the Israeli policy of administrative detention against them for long periods of time.
There are 520 Palestinian administrative detainees in Israel, said the PPS. Many administrative detainees have won their freedom after going on hunger strike.
The six detainees who are on hunger strike demanding their freedom are: Kayed Fasfous, 32, from the Hebron district town of Dura, is married and a father to one child. He has been on hunger strike for 64 days, the longest among the current striking detainees.
Meqdad Qawasme, 24, from Hebron city, is next in line on the hunger strikers list and has been on hunger strike for 57 days. He spent a total of four years behind bars for his resistance of the Israeli occupation.
Alaa Araj, 34, a civil engineer from Tulkarm in the north of the West Bank. He has been on hunger strike for 39 days. Arrested several times since 2013 and his only child was born during one of his incarcerations.
Hisham Abu Hawwash, 39, also from Dura, and has been on hunger strike for 31 days. A former prisoner who spent eight years behind bars.
Married and a father of four children, the youngest of which suffers from kidney failure.
Rayeq Bisharat, 44, from Tubas in the Jordan Valley. A former prisoner who spent nine years behind bars for his resistance of the occupation. He lost his arm in 2002, was arrested in 2003 and sentenced to nine years in prison before his release in 2012. Rearrested in July and placed in administrative detention. His wife was killed and his son was injured by Israeli forces. He has been on hunger strike for 26 days.
Shadi Abu Aker, 37, from Aida refugee camp in Bethlehem, is a former prisoner who spent 10 years in jail and was released in 2012. Re-arrested three times after that and placed in administrative detention. He is married and a father of two children and has been on hunger strike for 23 days.
