Palestinian National Council participates in World Conference of Speakers of Parliament

VIENNA, The Palestinian National Council (PNC), headed by Azzam al-Ahmad, participated today in the World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, which is being held in the Austrian capital, Vienna.

The conference will discuss a set of issues related to sustainable development, the repercussions of the Corona pandemic on the global economy, and other issues on its agenda.

Head of the Palestinian delegation, Azzam al-Ahmad, said during his speech on sustainable development and its impact on economic growth, according to a statement issued by the National Council, that sustainable development contradicts with the continued existence of the occupation, which steals natural resources, especially water, confiscates land, burns and destroys farms in favor of settlement expansion, in addition to attempts at demographic change through ethnic cleansing, restrictions on economic activities, and seizure of the Palestinian people’s money.

He stressed that some countries that support the occupying power prevent donor countries from providing financial support to the Palestinian people, adding that the Palestinian people, in light of the continued Israeli occupation and its ongoing violations, cannot build their independent national economy that is capable of providing for their basic needs like the rest of the peoples of the world, despite possessing scientific skills and competencies.

“We now look to you, and the international community and its institutions to assume responsibility and help our people in ending the occupation, gaining liberation and independence, and in the national development and state-building to provide our children and the future generation with a decent life, and achieving sustainable development to live in security and peace side by side with all the peoples of the world,” he added.
