Palestinian prisoner marks 20 years behind Israeli bars

A Palestinian prisoner serving a 24-year sentence in Israeli jails for resisting its occupation completed today 20 years behind bars, according to the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS).

PPS said Jihad Jawdat Jarrar, from the village of Hashemiya in the northern West Bank district of Jenin, completed today 20 years behind Israeli bars, during which he was subjected to the Israeli arbitrary punishment policies, including being deprived of family visits for some time.

Jarrar was arrested on July 10, 2001 for his activism in the resistance of the Israeli occupation.

According to the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Commission, the are about 4,400 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli detention, including 39 women, 140 minors, 600 sick prisoners, and 350 administrative detainees. A total of 570 prisoners are serving various life terms.
