RAMALLAH, Israeli forces Monday overnight detained 43 Palestinians from various parts of the occupied West Bank, mostly from Jerusalem, according to the Palestine Prisoner’s Society (PPS).

PPS confirmed in a press statement that Israeli police rounded up 26 Palestinians in multiple raids across the occupied city of Jerusalem.

Some of the raids were conducted in al-Lawza and Batn al-Hawa neighborhoods of Silwan, the Jabal al-Mukabbir and al-Tur neighborhoods, Shufat town and Jerusalem’s Old City.

In the southern West Bank, Israeli forces forced their way into Beit Ummar town, north of Hebron city, where they ransacked several houses and re-arrested a former prisoner.

PPS added that the soldiers detained at least two others and searched several houses in Yatta, south of the city.

In Bethlehem district, the sources confirmed an Israeli military raid in Beit Fajjar town, south of the city, resulting in the detention of three others.

One of the three detainees is a 24-year-old who underwent a surgery several days ago and another is a former prisoner who suffers from an injury.

Soldiers also detained four others, including two brothers, after storming the houses of their families in al-Walaja village, northwest of the city.

In Ramallah and al-Bireh district, Israeli soldiers detained two others in separate two raids in Kobar and Dura al-Qare‘ villages, northwest and north of the city.

Another was rounded up in a similar raid in Silwad town, north of the city.

In the northern West Bank, Israeli military vehicles stormed Tell town, west of Nablus city, where soldiers thoroughly searched several houses and rounded up a resident who was released several hours afterwards.

They also barged their way into Qabalan village, south of the city, where they rounded up another.

The soldiers conducted a similar raid in Azzun town, east of Qalqiliya city, where they detained another after breaking into and searching his family house.

PPS added that another was detained from the northern West Bank district of Jenin.

Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.

These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.

Under Israeli military law army commanders have full executive, legislative and judicial authority over 3 million Palestinians living in the West Bank. Palestinians have no say in how this authority is exercised.
