RAMALLAH, Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh discussed today with the U.S. Special Envoy for Israeli-Palestinian negotiations Hady Amr the need to continue making progress towards breaking the current political deadlock and to put a stop to Israel’s measures against the Palestinian people.

During a meeting in Ramallah, Shtayyeh said there is a general feeling of anger in Palestine, due to the ongoing Israeli aggression, incursions, and settler violence and terrorism.

He affirmed that the Palestinians are also angered by the double standards in applying international law.

Shtayyeh stressed the need for a political will to support the Palestinian side and implement pledges, especially the reopening of the US Consulate in Jerusalem to preserve the two-state solution.

The prime minister also highlighted the need for a political dialogue between the Palestinian and the American sides.

The premier called on the US administration to pressure Israel to abide by the signed agreements in order to revive the political file, which he stressed would create a suitable introduction to serious discussions on many issues, including holding national elections in all governorates, including Jerusalem.

Additionally, he briefed the US envoy on the financial and economic challenges faced by the Palestinian people and the National Authority, due to external influences, illegal Israeli deductions from Palestinian tax revenues, and the decline in international donations.

“The economic reports of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank clearly indicate that all exerted financial reforms will not solve our crisis as long as Israel continues to deduct from our money, and as long as the decline in international aid continues,” he explained.

They further discussed ways to make the upcoming Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC) meeting of donor countries in Brussels a success, stressing the need to compel Israel to commit to the outcomes of the meeting.
