President Abbas condemns assassination attempt of Fatah official

RAMALLAH, President Mahmoud Abbas condemned on Friday the botched assassination attempt earlier today of senior Fatah official Ahmad Helles during a live-fire shooting in the center of the Gaza Strip.

He described the attempt as a cowardly crime, which constitutes a real danger to the unity of the Palestinian people and its national liberation project, as well as to civil peace in the Palestinian community.

Earlier today, unknown assailants opened a barrage of gunfire at Helles’s car in Zawaydeh area in the central Gaza Strip, causing partial damage to the car but no one was injured as the bullets seemingly hit the bonnet of the car.
