RAMALLAH, President Mahmoud Abbas has mourned the former Minister of Civil Affairs Jamil Tarifi who died on Friday evening at the age of 75.

Tarifi held the position of the Minister of Civil Affairs in the Palestinian cabinet between 1994 and 2005.

He was born in the village of Deir Tarif in Mandatory Palestine in 1947, only one year before the 1948 Nakba, or catastrophe, of historic Palestine, when hundreds of Palestinian villages, including Tarifi’s village, were ethnically cleansed by Israeli militias.
