President Abbas receives China’s Envoy on Middle East Issue

RAMALLAH, President Mahmoud Abbas Thursday evening received the Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.

 

At the commencement of the meeting held in the attendance of the Head of China’s Representative Office to Palestine Guo Wei, the Chinese diplomat conveyed the greeting of Chinese President Xi Jinping to President Abbas while affirming China’s firm position in support of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and the resolution of its just question in line with the United Nations resolutions and international law.

 

He voiced his country’s keen interest in strengthening bilateral Chinese-Palestinian relations in the interest of both peoples while stressing the importance that President Abbas would attend the first Arab-Chinese summit, set to be hosted by Saudi Arabia on December 9, so as Presidents of both countries would meet at the sidelines of the summit.

 

President Abbas welcomed the Chinese diplomat, asking him to relay his greetings to President Xi and the friendly Chinese people while affirming the depth of the historical Palestinian-Chinese relations at various levels.

 

He briefed his Chinese guest on the latest developments on the Palestinian arena as well as the real risks arising from the Israel’s practices and persistent contempt for the rights of the Palestinian people, enshrined in international law.

 

He stressed the need that Israel halts its unilateral measures that undermine the prospects for the realization of the internationally-supported two state solution and the launching of a political track conducive to bringing an end to the Israeli occupation of the territories of the State of Palestine, including East Jerusalem, that began in 1967.

 

He thanked the Chinese guest on the his country’s firm position on providing political and economic support and voiced his confidence that China would support Palestine’s bid for full membership of the United Nations and play a key role in convening of an international peace conference.

 

He also stressed that Palestine continues to support the One China Policy principle while hailing China’s achievements at the economic and technological levels, among others.

 

He concluded the meeting by confirming that he would attend the upcoming Arab-Chinese summit and quest to meet his Chinese counterpart.
