Prime Minister Shtayyeh condemns Israeli assault against Al-Aqsa Mosque, warns of repercussions

RAMALLAH, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh today strongly condemned the Israeli assault against worshippers at Al-Aqsa Mosque, warning that this action may have serious repercussions.

Speaking at the start of the weekly cabinet meeting held in Ramallah specifically to discuss the urgent developments in East Jerusalem, particularly today’s events at Al-Aqsa Mosque, Shtayyeh said that he holds the Israeli government responsible for the assault.

“We condemn the Israeli occupation forces’ incursion into al-Aqsa Mosque at dawn this morning and the injury of dozens of worshippers in preparation for the storming of the extreme (Israeli) right wing groups of its courtyards. I hold the Israeli government fully responsible for what happened to the worshippers in the Al-Aqsa Mosque,” he said.

Shtayyeh warned of the consequences of these assaults and attempts to evict Palestinian residents of Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood from their homes in order to replace them with Israeli settlers.

He called for an immediate intervention from the international community to put a stop to these horrendous violations and to provide protection to the Palestinian civilians in the occupied territories, particularly in Jerusalem, which is facing ethnic cleansing.
