Prime Minister Shtayyeh from Hawara: Time to confront settlers through popular resistance

Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh, on a visit today to the northern West Bank town of Hawara, the scene of a recent Israeli pogrom, said that it is time for confronting the settlers through popular resistance.

Shtayyeh told reporters during a tour of the city after thousands of settlers broke into it on Sunday night setting hundreds of houses and vehicles on fire and attacking residents, that the formation of popular protection committees in the villages, towns and refugee camps is the real response to the settlers’ rampage.

He said what happened in Hawara is only one in the chain of Israeli crimes in the Palestinian governorates.

“The settlers are a tool that executes the crimes of the occupation protected by its forces,” said Prime Minister Shtayyeh.

He also said his government will make every effort to meet the needs of the residents of Hawara, in light of the extensive damage caused to their homes, property and businesses as a result of the settlers’ pogroms.
