Melbourne , October 09 (QNA) – The Qatari football team will have to overcome Bahrain, Yemen and Malaysia if it wants to take part in the Asian Cup 2015 in Australia, after the draw put them Tuesday in the same group as those three.
Qatar Football Association’s (QFA) Executive Director Mansour Al Ansari was Qatar’s representative in the draw. Assistant Manager of the first team Fahad Thani was also present.
There are 20 teams that will take part in the Qualifiers, divided into five groups of four. The top two groups of each team qualify to the finals, as well as the best third-placed team. They join the last Asian Cup’s top three who qualify automatically for the 2015 edition. The top three were Japan, Australia and South Korea. The champion of the AFC Challenge Cup, North Korea, also qualifies automatically.
Group A will include Jordan, Syria, Oman, Singapore. Group B will see Iran, Kuwait, Thailand and Lebanon pit against one another. Group C included all of Iraq, China, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia. Qatar’s group was the fourth, and the final group consisted of Uzbekistan, UAE, Vietnam and Hong Kong.
