RAMALLAH, Wednesday, Razing Palestinian-owned land for settlement expansion in the northern West Bank hit the front page headlines in Palestinian dailies on Wednesday.
Al-Ayyam reported that Israeli forces razed a tract of large tract of land belonging to the northern West Bank village of Dahr al-Maleh, southwest of Jenin, to expand the nearby Israeli settlement of Shaked, a theme that was also covered in al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida.
Israeli military bulldozers started the razing of 120 dunums of land belonging to the village and in the process destroyed a paved road to expand the settlement.
The dailies reported that Israeli forces also razed Palestinian-owned lands in the southern West Bank district of Hebron.
Israeli forces demolished a Palestinian-owned structure used for agricultural purposes, uprooted olive trees and razed one dunum of agricultural land in Masafer Yatta in Hebron district.
On the other hand, al-Quds opted to spotlight Palestinian statements on Russian efforts to end the intra-Palestinian division.
It reported well-informed Palestinian sources saying that Russia would not present a new plan for intra-Palestinian reconcilian.
Additionally, al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted an Israeli military raid into the northern West Bank town of Kufur Qaddoum, east of Qalqiliya.
They explained that Israeli forces injured two Palestinian young men with live rounds, including one suffering from a serious injury, during the raid that triggered confrontations in the town.
According to al-Hayat al-Jadida, Israeli forces detained 10 Palestinians during multiple overnight raids across the West Bank.
Highlighting settlers’ intrusions into flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, al-Ayyam said that 77 Israeli Jewish settlers and military police officers forced their way into the holy site.
Moreover, the dailies said that Israeli Labor Party announced breakup of the Zionist Union with Tzipi Livni’s Hatnuah party four months ahead of elections.
They added that Israel and the US officially quit the United Nations’ educational, scientific and cultural agency (UNESCO).
According to al-Quds and al-Ayyam, Israel announced the completion of the construction of the maritime barrier off the northern coast of Gaza.
Highlighting the annual report of Wadi Hilweh Information Center, al-Quds said 2018 was characterized by the consolidation of Israeli settlement construction and escalation of the [policy of Palestinian home demolitions.
Yet, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said President Mahmoud Abbas received a delegation from the committee in charge of supervising the reconstruction of al-Yarmouk refugee camp in Syria.
Finally, al-Hayat al-Jadida reported member of Fatah Central Committee Hussein al-Sheikh saying that there would be no dialogue with Hamas after the latter assaulted thousands of Palestinians who marked the 54th anniversary of the founding of Fatah party in Gaza.
