JERUSALEM, Some 150,000 worshippers Saturday morning performed Eid al-Adha prayer at Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, according to WAFA correspondent.

She said that since the morning hours the worshipers arrived in large numbers at the third holiest site in Islam from Jerusalem, the various West Bank districts and from inside Israel to attend the prayer of Eid al-Adha, the “Festival of the Sacrifice,” which is the second of two globally celebrated holidays in Islam and coincides with the annual Hajj (pilgrimage) to Makkah.

Israeli police set up dozens of roadblocks, conducted extensive searches and checks on Palestinians and their ID cards, and prevented many of them from reaching the holy site.

Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, also known as Al-Haram Al-Sharif, houses the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa Mosque in addition to several other worship areas. It is located in East Jerusalem, a part of the internationally-recognized Palestinian territories that have been occupied by the Israeli military since 1967.
