Thousands demonstrate in Hebron in support of Palestinian leadership

Thousands of Palestinians demonstrated on Saturday evening in the city of Hebron, south of the West Bank, in support of President Mahmoud Abbas and the hunger-striking Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons.

The demonstration, called for by President Abbas’s ruling Fatah Movement, underscored the importance of consolidating national unity and upholding the Palestinian national project of independence and statehood.

The protesters waved Palestine and Fatah flags as well as banners supporting the Palestinian leadership.

The protesters also voiced their support for Palestinian detainees on hunger strike, formost of whom is priosner Ghadanfar Abu Atwan, who has been on hunger strike for 60 days in protest of his unfair detention without a charge or trial by the Israeli occupation authorities.

The protesters chanted slogans in support of the Palestinian anti-colonization movement in the villages of Beita, Kafr Qaddum, Ni’lin and Masafer Yatta.

The protesters also voiced support for the Palestinian security forces in their commitment to achieve the rule of law in the country.
