ISTANBUL, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu condemned on Saturday the US’ unilateral decision to move its embassy in Israel to occupied Jerusalem.
This decision of the US is wrong. We need to take a common stance against this wrong decision. We are seeing some hesitance within the Arab League recently, which is a mistake, Cavusoglu was quoted as saying by Turkey’s official news agency Anadolu.
Cavusoglu reiterated Turkey’s stance on Palestine, saying that even if every country remains silent on the Jerusalem issue, Turkey will not,” adding that “Turkey will continue to defend the Jerusalem case for the Palestinians.
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said his country was worried about the state of the settlement between Palestinians and Israelis, and that the US decision on Jerusalem has led it to deadlock.
We are very concerned about the situation in the Palestinian-Israeli settlement; it is at a dead end. Moreover, the impasse is getting deeper, especially in the light of the US decisions on Jerusalem, he said during a meeting with UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nikolai Mladenov.
The US intends to officially relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on May 14 to coincide with the the Nakba or the 1948 Catastrophe of Palestine.
