UN Envoy: Transparency at Sana’a’s National Dialogue Conference

WAM Sana’a, May 13th, 2013 (WAM)– The United Nations envoy to Yemen, Jamal bin Omar, has affirmed that the National Dialogue Conference is running with due transparency. He also confirmed that there are no conspiracies or collusions outside the conference hall, and that all parties are cooperating and working to ensure the transparency.

This came in a statement made by the UN adviser last night to the Yemen News Agency(SABA) as he was leaving Sana’a. He also expressed his optimism for the outcome of the conference, alluding to the constructive dialogue in which all parties took part and the efforts made to make this conference a success. The political parties have for the first time presented their documented visions to be discussed seriously inside the conference hall.

According to bin Omar, what sets this conference apart is the responsibility and optimism this important even has generated. Also, he welcomed the full cooperation of all parties that formed the basis for this conference, a first in Yemen, to remove hurdles and forge a new social contract.

Bin Omar highlighted the fact that the United Nations has called on all concerned parties in Yemen to take part in this National Dialogue. “As for the southern issue, there is a special team working on this case. Our stance remains unchanged, there is no way to solve the southern issue except through dialogue, which is why we have tried our best to convince those who weren’t present at the conference of its immense importance.” The UN envoy concluded.
