ZU to host International Conference on Islamic Economics and China on Saturday

WAM Dubai, 2nd May 2013 (WAM) — Zayed University’s Institute for Islamic World Studies (ISWS) will organise on Saturday, 4th May 2013, the International Conference on Islamic Economics and China at its Dubai Campus.

The conference is convened  from May 4 to 5 in the spirit of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s initiative to promote Dubai as ” World Capital of Islamic Economy.” Sheikh Ali Gomaa, former Grand Mufti of Egypt, and Visiting professor at Zayed University Institute for Islamic World Studies, Zhan Jingbao, Consul General of People’s Republic of China in Dubai, and Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim, Vice President of Zayed University, will give opening addresses at the two-day event.

Dr. Nasr Arif, Executive Director and Professor, Institute of Islamic World Studies, Zayed University, said the conference will assemble 16 speakers including ten from China.

Dr. Zhang Shaoming, Vice President, Ningxia Academy of Social Sciences, Yinchuan, China, will speak about ”New Features of Chinese Muslims Enterprise Development”.

Waqf Model and Its Application in Chinese Muslim Society, Role of Mosque in Chinese Muslim Education, Halal Food Industry and Standardization in China: Regulations and Survival Guide, Characteristics of Consumer Behavior of Chinese Muslims, Muslim Business Ethics in China, The Basics of Islamic Financial Cooperation between Arab States and China, Opportunities and Challenges of Islamic Finance Services in China, Islamic Economics and World Financial Crises and Islamic Finance and the Challenges of Development in a Globalized World will top the agenda of discussion.

A roundtable on Sheikh Muhammad Bin Rashid’s Islamic Economy Initiative and the Future of China-Arab Cooperation will be held as part of the conference.

The IIWS was established to become a remarkable landmark of teaching and researching. It uses a new methodology to teach Islamic Studies in higher education, outreaches to the community, and supports research. It aspires to become a leading international institutions in Islamic world studies.

It mandate is develop and administer untraditional Islamic studies programs related to the education and training of researchers, professionals and community leaders from the UAE and abroad. It will apply modern social sciences methods to study Islam and the Islamic world.
