Italy granted 17 million euros in support of the civilian population affected by the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Lebanon. Upon request by the Vice President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, the Deputy Minister, Hon. Edmondo Cirielli, approved on October 2nd, 2024 the financing of three new emergency initiatives aimed at responding to the most immediate needs of the displaced civilian population. In response to the 'Lebanon Flash Appeal' presented by the United Nations in coordination with the Lebanese Government, the resources of the Italian Cooperation will be allocated to the Italian Civil Society Organizations active in Lebanon, for which a first response emergency call will be launched in the coming days; to the 'Lebanon Humanitarian Fund', managed by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA); and to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Italy will continue to prov ide assistance and support to people in vulnerable conditions also thanks to the excellent bilateral cooperation between the Italian Defense and the Lebanese Armed Forces. On Friday September 27th, a first humanitarian flight organized by the Italian Ministry of Defense, carrying two tons of medical and food supplies, landed at Beirut airport. As current G7 President and major UNIFIL Troop-Contributing Country, Italy reiterates its commitment to achieving a ceasefire and a diplomatic solution to the conflict, consistent with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which would allow all displaced persons to return to their homes, Now more than ever, Italy stands by Lebanon and the Lebanese people.
