The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources today organized a regional workshop on the use of desert locust pesticide management systems in the countries of the Central Africa and Horn of Africa. Eleven countries are taking part in the 5-day workshop, opened under the auspices of Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Bakri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources for Agriculture. The workshop reflects the keenness of the Desert Locust Control Authority to encourage the use of innovative technologies in the field and to mitigate related risks on human health and the environment. þThe workshop focuses on early response in dealing with locust outbreaks by supplying equipment and materials needed for warehouses, introducing mechanisms for regulating pest control and assessing the national requirements of countries in this context.
