A total of 141 people died and 59 others were missing after Typhoon Yagi caused landslides and floods in northern Vietnam. Vietnamese local authorities confirmed that the Le River Dam in Quyet Thang commune was destroyed due to the high water level of the river. It also warned that the water level of the Hong (Red) River in the capital Hanoi has exceeded the second warning level of the three flood control levels, and is expected to reach the highest warning level, according to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting. The center also issued a warning about the significant rise in water levels in the Thao River, explaining that low-lying areas on the banks of rivers are at high risk of flooding. Natural disasters, including storms, landslides and floods, have left 111 people dead or missing in Vietnam since the beginning of 2024 until 5 August 2024 - the highest number reported in the same period in five years, according to the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.
