Murder Toll of Palestinian Journalists since Start of Israeli Onslaught on Gaza Rises to 182

The number of journalists who have been killed since the start of the wanton Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip on 7 October 2023, rose to 182 male and female journalists following the martyrdom of five journalists, according to the government media office in the Gaza Strip in a statement. Additionally, three journalists were martyred after the Israeli occupation army bombarded Asma school, which was sheltering displaced people at the Beach camp in western Gaza City. Palestinian sources reported that the three perished journalists were namely, Saed Radwan, head of digital media at Al-Aqsa television, Haneen Mahmoud Baroud from Sanad News Agency, and Haneen Baroud from Al-Quds Foundation. Nadia Al Sayed, a journalist and program producer with local radio stations in the Strip, alongside Abdel Rahman Al Tanani, a journalist at the local radio stations Zaman and Sawt Al-Shaab, were also killed. The statement condemned the Israeli targeting of Palestinian journalists and called on the international community and relevant international organizations to deter and prosecute the Israeli occupation in international courts for its ongoing crimes. It urged these bodies to ramp up pressure on the occupation to halt the genocide and assassination of Palestinian journalists. During more than a year of the aggression against Gaza, journalists have faced systematic targeting by the Israeli occupation. There have been recorded cases of assassinations and direct targeting of journalists while performing their professional duties in the field, as well as serious injuries among them that have, in many cases, led to amputations. Additionally, the Israeli occupation forces destroyed more than 182 institutions, headquarters, and media offices in the enclave to undermine the ability of media outlets to cover the atrocities and massacres being committed, in a flagrant violation of journalists' rights and freedom of expression.
