South al batinah: The construction sector in South Al Batinah Governorate witnessed remarkable growth during the first half of 2025, reflecting an accelerating pace of urban development and real estate investment across the governorate's wilayats.
According to Oman News Agency, the total number of major building permits issued during this period reached 3,289, compared to 2,188 in the first half of 2024-marking a 50% growth rate, one of the strongest indicators of the sector's rising activity. The municipality revealed positive trends in issued permits and completed projects, confirming the effectiveness of development plans and the advanced level of services provided.
Municipal data highlighted Barka as the leading wilayat in the governorate, with 1,786 major building permits issued in H1 2025, reflecting its expanding urban activity. It was followed by Al Musannah with 634 permits, A'Rustaq with 565, Wadi Al Maawil with 127, Nakhal with 125, and Al Awabi with 52. These figures demonstrate natural variations in urban demand while confirming sustained growth across all regions.
By usage type, new residential construction permits dominated with 2,994 permits, followed by industrial (92), residential-commercial (85), agricultural (56), government (29), commercial (28), and tourism (5). Minor building permits also rose by 29%, reaching 275 in 2025 compared to 214 in 2024. Additionally, building completion certificates surged by 51%, totaling 2,515 in H1 2025 against 1,665 in the same period last year.
