Muscat: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, received Gilbert Houngbo, Director-General of the International Labor Organization (ILO), at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry today. The meeting focused on strengthening the cooperative relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the ILO, alongside the continuation of work programs and constructive consultation between the two entities.

According to Oman News Agency, the Foreign Minister expressed the appreciation of the Government of the Sultanate of Oman for the pivotal role of the ILO in aiding member states to evolve their labor systems in accordance with international best practices and standards. He underscored Oman's commitment to maintaining positive and beneficial ties in this context and acknowledged the significant role of the Director-General in advancing relevant frameworks and concepts.

The Director-General, in turn, praised the progress and achievements made by Oman in labor policies, labor market development, and fostering relationships among production stakeholders. He reiterated the ILO's dedication to continuing a constructive partnership with Oman, particularly in areas like skills development, capacity building, and supporting training and employment programs aligned with national development priorities and the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

During their discussions, both parties explored opportunities for enhanced cooperation and ways to leverage the ILO's specialized programs to further develop labor legislation, improve labor market efficiency, and strengthen institutional capabilities.

The meeting was attended by Khalid bin Salim Al Ghamari, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labor for Labor Affairs, Dr. Ruba Jaradat, Regional Director for Arab States at the ILO, and several officials from both sides.
