UK Petrol Prices Hit Two-Year High as Middle East Conflict Drives Surge

Muscat: Petrol prices across Britain have soared to their highest level in two years amid the ongoing Middle East conflict, with diesel recording a 30 percent increase since hostilities began. A London filling station was charging 299.9 pence per litre of petrol, just shy of the three-pound mark, as motorists rushed to fill up during the Easter break.

According to Oman News Agency, the spike follows warnings of eye-watering fuel costs for Easter travellers, after March witnessed unprecedented monthly price rises. Simon Williams, head of policy at the RAC, said: "March was unprecedented-fuel prices have never risen at such a rate within a single month before." He noted that drivers are now facing steeper increases than those seen after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.

Latest figures indicate the average diesel price reached 185.23 pence per litre this week, marking a 30 percent jump since the Iran war began, while petrol rose to 154.45 pence, a 16 percent increase. Several stations across the country were selling diesel at nearly £2 per litre, including Euro Garages on the M61 near Bolton, which recorded 200.9 pence per litre. Three other stations were found charging 199.9 pence per litre.
