Muscat: The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD) working team, organized a scientific seminar titled "Culture and Art: Readings in Reality and Aspirations."
According to Oman News Agency, the seminar aimed to introduce the UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of the Artist (1980) and review mechanisms for supporting and financing creativity through the International Fund for Cultural Diversity. It also sought to raise awareness of the law protecting artists' works from plagiarism and literary theft, discuss the importance of art in addressing societal issues, develop art, and build the capacities of artists. Additionally, the event highlighted the role of cultural institutions in supporting creatives and underscored art as an effective tool in addressing societal issues.
Abdullah Mohammed Al Harthy, Director General of Knowledge and Cultural Development at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and Head of the International Fund for Cultural Diversity Working Team, emphasized in a speech delivered at the seminar the importance of culture and the arts in building societies. He highlighted their role in strengthening identity and understanding among people, supporting sustainable development, economic diversification, youth empowerment, and job creation.
Dr. Amer Mohammed Al Aysari, a member of Oman Society for Writers and Literati, also addressed the seminar, focusing on the importance of culture in human communication as a driver of sustainable development and a preserver of national identity.
During the seminar's opening ceremony, the logo of the International Fund for Cultural Diversity Working Team was launched. This step reflects the direction toward enhancing the presence of cultural initiatives and establishing the team's visual identity in line with its goals of supporting cultural and artistic projects. The seminar program included a scientific session titled "Culture and Art: Readings in Reality and Aspirations."
